Tools and Techniques Workshops

The Tools and Techniques Workshops are in-person workshops that are ideally taken after you take our Breastfeeding Ready class and our New Baby and Postpartum Ready class.

New Baby Care: Tools and Techniques Workshop

  • soothing the crying baby and why a big ball is so helpful
  • learn simple babywearing techniques
  • see, touch and discuss diapers: cloth and disposable
  • see and touch tools for baby care
  • find out about items you do NOT need (hint: most)
  • learn which items may be helpful (hint: a few)
  • practical info about baby care and living with a baby
  • your questions will be answered
  • we'll have dolls and lots of tools/items/baby gear here for you to touch, play with, etc.

Feeding a New Baby: Tools and Techniques Workshop

  • practice breastfeeding positions
  • practice latching (we'll have dolls and cloth/silicone breast models here for you to use)
  • practice hand expression
  • see/touch some pumps and flanges
  • see/touch some bottles
  • practice bottlefeeding positions
  • practice activities for baby's body that can help with feeding
  • we'll talk about burping (or not burping)
  • your questions will be answered

Who & How Much?

The fee is per couple. What is a "couple"?  Typically, it's two people (one pregnant, one non-pregnant support person, but you are also welcome to bring a grandparent/aunt/uncle if they will be helping you in the first weeks after baby arrives).  

Each workshop is a one-time, 2-hour session, in Northborough, MA.  This is NOT a virtual class.  Ideally, registrants will have already taken our prenatal New Baby & Postpartum Ready class and/or our Breastfeeding Ready classes.

$80 per couple, per workshop.  Limited to 8 couples.

The Feeding a New Baby: Tools and Techniques workshop is taught by Jeanette Mesite Frem, MHS, IBCLC, RLC, CCE, who is a mother of two full-term nursing children, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant/Registered Lactation Consultant in private practice right here with Babies in Common, experienced birth doula, certified childbirth educator, former childbirth educator trainer, public health specialist, certified nursing bra fitter, moms group leader and former owner of a local maternity and parenting center. She is also known around the world by other IBCLCs and perinatal professionals, as she is a speaker for conferences and does educational seminars/courses about pumping, flange fitting and feeding gear.

The New Baby Care: Tools & Techniques workshop is taught by Melissa DuBois, RNC-OB/EFM, BSN, CCE, CLC, who has a far-reaching reputation of being one of the funnest (and funniest!) childbirth educators in New England!  She is passionate about evidence-based, family-centered, trauma-informed perinatal care and works hard to help all her students have a safe, positive and empowering birth experience, regardless of their birth plan or setting! Melissa Anne is an experienced perinatal nurse, childbirth educator, lactation counselor and mother of three children. She has had the privilege of helping thousands of families through their pregnancy, labor, birth, postpartum, feeding & newborn experiences.
