MILK Workshops: Merging Innovation and Lactation Knowledge

Why join the MILK Workshops?
Because you want to learn more about

Merging Innovation and Lactation Knowledge
, of course!

You want all the information.
Maybe you can’t get to one of my in‑person workshops right now.
Maybe you’ve already attended one of my online or in‑person workshops, courses, or webinars—and you know there’s more to learn.
Or perhaps you've always been intending to sign up for one of the offerings from Babies in Common--NOW is the time!
You already know that what many are calling the “updated way” of flange fitting is essential knowledge if you want to truly improve your clients’ pumping experiences.
And you know that with 109 bottles in my collection, it's a wild world for us and our clients when it comes to choosing bottles AND what the nuances are for using those bottles.
I want to share it ALL with you!

You also know this:
There are too many pumps, bottles, nipple shields, and feeding‑related products on the market today—and your clients are using them. They’re bringing products to sessions, asking questions, and expecting confident, evidence‑informed guidance. You want to feel grounded and capable as you help them navigate it all.

And perhaps you need CERPs for recertification—while also knowing that continuing education is most valuable when it actually improves your clinical skills.

✔ Earn up to 18.5 L‑CERPs
✔ Or, if you are an IBCLC, earn up to 27.75 CERPs
✔ Learn practical, immediately usable tools and techniques

That’s where the MILK Workshops come in (pun intended)

The Merging Innovation and Lactation Knowledge (MILK) Workshops
are live, interactive online workshops—with on‑demand replays—designed to bring your lactation knowledge together with the modern tools, products, and techniques our clients are using today.
These workshops delve into:
  • Contemporary approaches to flange fitting (even some new things I'll share since my March webinars!)
  • Pumps, bottles, nipple shields, and other feeding products
  • Practical techniques that support real‑world milk‑making and infant feeding experiences
  • Helping clients meet their lactation and feeding goals with confidence
Modern tools. Modern techniques. Modern approaches.

The MILK Workshops are designed to help you:
  • Grow your confidence with products and innovation
  • Strengthen your clinical skill‑set
  • Better support families in today’s complex feeding landscape
Live, interactive, and connected—worldwide
The MILK Workshops were created for all lactation and perinatal professionals who want live, interactive online education with me. I love being live on Zoom with professionals from all over the world as we learn together for the benefit of the families we serve—and yes, I’m often told these workshops are more FUN than attendees expected. Attend live and/or watch the replay. You'll get to MILK them to be sure you got all the nutrients, so to speak!

Why do a LIVE, online workshop?
Maybe someday you’ll attend one of my in‑person workshops (and maybe you already have). Not only are these live, online events going to be the the most up‑to‑date, they allow us to stay connected as a learning community—no matter where we are located. We'll get to know each other a bit. Plus, live and interactive workshops are WAY more fun than just watching a recording. PLUS, you're more likely to DO it when there's an actual time we're meeting. (But of course, life happens, so if you have to miss the live workshop, you'll get access to the recording!).

A note about live attendance
I originally wanted these to be events with everyone on camera, but then realized that we are all busy, and committing to that may not be possible. Therefore, these will be live and interactive webinars, but those attending live are not required to have their camera on. I'd really appreciate if you do have your camera on, but it's not required!

Nipple Shields: Choosing & Using for Purpose
$37 | 1.25 hours | 1 L‑CERP approved by IBCLE
Many of our clients are using nipple shields, whether they actually needed in the first place or not. There are many types of nipple shields on the market today, and we'll talk about how to help your clients choose and use them (based on why they are using them), with the goal of reducing or eliminating their use (in most cases).
Wearable Pumps: Dreams vs. Realities
$67 | 2 hours | 1.5 L‑CERPs approved by IBCLE
It seems that most parents want (or already have) a wearable pump, but they are, unfortunately, just not the best pump for everyone. We'll discuss the differences between many of them, how to do a flange fitting for a wearable pump, and the important things to know as you counsel your clients about choosing and using wearable pumps.
Catchers & Pullers: Counseling Our Clients About Their Use
$37 | 1.5 hours | 1 L‑CERP approved by IBCLE
Products that catch and pull milk are commonly used by parents and marketed by too many companies today. These products may be helpful for some, but we know they can create problems and/or worries for many families. Let's talk about the different types of milk catchers and suction devices and when and why you might encourage or discourage their use.
Supplemental Feeders: the Basics
$37 | 1.25 hours | 1 L‑CERP approved by IBCLE
If you are new to supplemental feeding devices (also called supply lines or alternative feeders), this one is for you! We'll go over which ones are on the market, when you might choose them, and some basic information about how to use them. If you'd like more in-depth information on using them and talking about them (gently convincing your clients to use them), then take Johanna Sargeant's workshop (see further below on this page).
Pacifiers: Counseling Families on Choosing and Using for Purpose
$47 | 1.5 hours | 1.25 L‑CERPs approved by IBCLE
There are too many pacifier options on the market. During this workshop, you'll see most of them close to the camera, and we'll talk about why you might recommend your clients avoid certain ones, as well as why you might encourage them to use others...if using a pacifier is what they are choosing or you are using them for a specific purpose (temporarily).
Bottles: Counseling Families on Choosing & Using Responsively
$147 | 3 hours | 2 L‑CERPs approved by IBCLE
With over 100 bottles in my collection, we'll talk about why we might encourage our clients to choose certain teat shapes (and flow and texture) over others, which ones we might discourage (and why), and which positions and techniques we might recommend in which situations.
Pumping & Feeding Gear Workshop
$297 | 8 hours in two sessions | 7 L‑CERPs approved by IBCLE

During this 2-session workshop, you'll be with a cohort of people, and we'll go through flange fitting and flanges, pumps, nipple shields, bottles and bottlefeeding, catchers and pullers, supplemental feeders, and more gear.  Does this cover a lot of the same as the above individual workshops? Yes! But hearing things more than once AND being with a cohort of the same people for two sessions is invaluable.  As adult learners, hearing things more than once and sometimes in a different way helps us learn and think about things from different perspectives.  If you'd rather cover as much as possible in a 2-day workshop instead of signing up for all the different live sessions above, this is also a great option for you! Included in the WHOLE MILK Package!

All of the MILK Workshops (except the Exploring Supplemental Feeders) are taught by Jeanette Mesite Frem, MHS, IBCLC, CCE
Jeanette is the creator of the Flange FITS™ Guide, which is being used all around the world by more and more lactation and perinatal professionals, including in hospitals. She is an experienced childbirth educator, former birth doula, and an IBCLC-lactation consultant. Her two children were breastfed for more than 2 years each and Jeanette has experience pumping at work for both children and has supported more than a thousand families with breastfeeding, chestfeeding, pumping, bottlefeeding, cupfeeding, tubefeeding, etc. over the years.

Jeanette provides prenatal childbirth and breastfeeding classes at her office in Northborough, Massachusetts, as well as providing office and virtual feeding consultations. What people have said about my workshops

I want to tell you; I am a seasoned OB nurse for 29 years and Lactation Consultant for over 15 years.  It never occurred to me that we were fitting our patients incorrectly in their flanges!! That is, until YOU came along!  What enlightening information to learn.  I am at a busy children's hospital in […] and also work in their clinic and your expertise and knowledge has helped out so many of our families.  As you know, many more families are pumping and bottle feeding now due to working, better pumps, etc., so to have this extra knowledge to help these families has been exceptional and so very helpful. THANK YOU!!!  Sincerely, Cindie L

Thank you so much for your fabulous talk. I watched it yesterday and already I have been able to change a woman’s expressing journey for the better. She came to me using size 24mm flanges (what came with her pump). I measured her up and her nipple tip measured 10mm…… the smallest we have is 13mm here at the hospital, so we tried those and doubled her output. She was totally amazed, pain free, and with the same sized nipple as she started with. She has gone to source the smaller size to see if that is better. One happy IBCLC – one happy mummy. Thank you so much. ~ Ange, IBCLC, Perth Western Australia

"I have been on a soap box for many years about how unethical it is that pump companies don't send more sizes of flanges to families. I am a board certified lactation consultant and can still remember when I was pumping my size 12mm nipples with a 24mm flange. Se essentially, 12mm of my areola were also being pumped! It caused tissue damage, pain and frustration and I have been pissed since. That was 11 years ago! But, I didn't quite know what to do about it. Jeanette's course connected the dots, gave me confidence to explore professional flange fitting, all with evidence based practices behind it. It is a pivot we will look back on in the lactation history books. I can't wait to help all of my future clients." ~ Tara Czapla, IBCLC

Fantastic Course on Pumping & Feeding Tools—Highly Recommend! I recently completed the Pumping & Feeding Gear course for IBCLCs by Jeannette Mesite, and it was absolutely fantastic! The course was incredibly informative, providing a deep dive into the different pumping and feeding tools available and how they can best support families. Jeannette’s teaching style is clear, engaging, and practical, making complex topics easy to understand. I feel much more confident in guiding clients through the various options and troubleshooting potential issues. I highly recommend this course to any IBCLC looking to expand their knowledge in this area! ~ Maria Fernandez

I think this course is so important that ALL IBCLC's should take it. It is rare for most IBCLC's to be able to see all the pumps, wearables, bottles, and feeding devices on the market the way you can in this course. It was so helpful to understand the history of pumps and flanges and to really challenge the way we traditionally do things. This course will change the way you practice! I highly recommend this course. ~ Dr. Carrie Dendtler, PT DPT IBCLC

I would absolutely recommend the Pumping & Feeding Gear course for IBCLCs. As a newer IBCLC, seasoned NICU occupational therapist, and mother of 4 there were many jaw dropping moments for me around being introduced to her updated way of flange fitting. My mind is absolutely blown at how wrong we've gotten it for so long!! The examples Jeanette provides of how different pumps, pump settings, and the use of untraditional sized flanges really play into comfort and milk output are super helpful. She has me a 100% believer that as an IBCLC after taking this course, I can go out there and help change the trajectory of many pumping journeys! - Kathy Jessen OTR/L, IBCLC
