Prenatal & Childbirth Education

Are you ready to get real about how to have a natural birth, whether in a hospital, birth center or at home?

Do you want to have an awesome birth, no matter how or where your baby arrives?

Do you know you want medications or are likely to need interventions but know that the more you know the better birth experience you will likely have?

Do you value knowledge and skills in all aspects of your life?

Wouldn’t you want to take the most comprehensive and fun classes in the region!

Don’t you deserve to learn as much as possible and enjoy doing it?

Are you looking for classes and groups that take you from pregnancy, through to birth, new parenthood and breastfeeding as well?  Look no more.

       Empowering.  Fun.  Gamechanger.  Unexpected.  Informative.

Those are the words that some have used to describe my classes.  I’m blessed to have gotten to know well over 1000 families in my childbirth classes since starting to teach in 2003. They say they appreciate the energy, the jokes, the time, the options and the passion that I have for birth and supporting new parents and their babies.  My classes are small enough that I can get to know everyone, give you the individual attention you deserve, answer every question before, during and after classes as well as stay in touch.  Childbirth classes should be fun...I mean, you ARE having a baby, after all! Why not make it fun!?

Why Take Your Classes with Babies in Common?

If you’re looking forward to giving birth without medication, prefer no or little intervention or want an epidural but understand the benefits of waiting until later in labor to get one, it's best to take both of the prenatal birth classes I offer:  Spinning Babies Parent Class* and Move & Get Comfy for Labor AND be sure to do your homework (which includes reading, videos and activities to do on your own and with a birth partner).

You will learn the basics of what you need to increase your chances for an awesome birth experience (as you define it) wherever you are choosing to give birth (hospital, birth center, or at home). We'll combine the wisdom of pioneers in the natural childbirth movement like Fernand Lamaze, Robert Bradley, Ina May Gaskin and Gail Tully (Spinning Babies) as well as evidence-based information about prenatal care, labor and birth to help you form your own philosophy for your birth.

The birth of your baby is a miracle. It’s awesome.  It’s amazing.  Birth just plain ROCKS.  It should be a day you rave about, no matter how that baby comes out! Find out how you, too, can have that kind of attitude about birthing.

Babies in Common classes help parents get the information they need to make informed decisions about pregnancy, labor, birth, newborn care and breastfeeding.  While classes are  based on research evidence, it's ultimately the taking of that information, new skills and the parents' values to their care providers so they can work together to figure out what is best  for each family.  Plus, for fifteen years Jeanette Mesite Frem has been teaching comprehensive and fun classes to literally thousands of Massachusetts families.  She believes prenatal classes should be fun--having a baby is fun and amazing, after all!

Breastfeeding Ready

mom and baby in love

This class discusses how to get breastfeeding off to a great start and what parents can do prenatally to prepare. It also walks parents through how to navigate the first month of baby's life feeling supported and what bumps in the road to look for. We talk about sore nipples, how to know when baby is getting enough milk, hand expression, pumping, choosing breast pumps (with pumps and lots of gear there) and how to know when to call in a professional for help.  We'll also talk about what you need and don't need as far as products. What can be more fun than talking about boobs!?  1-time class, 3 hrs, $80 per couple  Click here for more details and to register.

New Baby & Postpartum Ready

This class, taught by Melissa, an experienced labor and postpartum and OB/gyn nurse, childbirth educator and lactation counselor, provides parents with tons of information about easing the transition to parenthood, getting information to know how to make decisions for baby's care, bathing, healthy products, sleep, diapers, soothing baby and adjusting to parenthood.  And she's funny. Spinning Babies Parent Class

I am a Spinning Babies Certified Parent Educator and am bringing this class into our area, ideally as part of your entire series of classes as you prepare for birth. is a popular resource for parents-to-be (over 500,000 hits per month!) because the daily activities, postures and techniques for pregnancy and birth are really making the difference for birthing families across the globe. The Spinning Babies Parent Class shows you what to do for an easier birth with practical and detailed preparation to help baby in the best position to fit the pelvis and solutions when labor seems long, painful, or has a stall! Planning a VBAC?

For those planning for a vaginal birth after Cesarean, it's best to take the Spinning Babies Parent Class and even add on the Move & Get Comfy for Labor class or even take the entire package of birth classes--there have been several couples who have done that and also enjoyed it as a date night away from their toddler! Actually, an area anesthesiologist took the full panel of Babies in Common birth classes in preparation for her VBAC and then took the Move & Get Comfy for Labor class in preparation for her third baby--she wrote a guest blog post about it on, by the way, so check that out by clicking hereClick here to read more about planning a VBAC with help from Babies in Common.

Cesarean & Postpartum

For those who are planning a Cesarean (or high-risk for having one) but are interested in finding out what happens during a Cesarean and how to make it as comfortable, joyful and personalized as possible.  We'll also go through what to expect in the hospital after baby's arrival as well as transitioning to parenthood at home and what makes that transition easier and more comfortable after surgery.  One-time class, 2.5 hrs.  Click here for more information on scheduling a class.
