Feeding Support Groups

There are two different groups that support parents with feeding, nursing, chestfeeding, bottlefeeding, pumping and feeding solids, too!

Breastmilk & Conversation

An almost-weekly fun and informative group where those who are breastfeeding, pumping, chestfeeding (or those who are expecting to in the near future) always leave feeling more informed and encouraged. Come learn what’s normal, discover how amazing you and your baby are and how easy breastfeeding and pumping can be. However, while nursing is "natural", sometimes it’s not so easy. Pumping has its benefits and challenges, too. Come and get suggestions and new ideas from the others in the group as well as the group facilitator. If you want to pump during group, feel free. If you need to bring a bottle or other feeding device, please do. If you need/want to bring some formula to feed your baby, please do.  There is also a scale at group for you to use to weigh your baby.  There is complimentary coffee and tea available as well as cold and hot water. This is a place where many learn to nurse in public for the first time. No covers are needed but if you feel more comfortable with one, feel free!

We talk about making nursing more comfortable, skin-to-skin, pumping, hand-expression, increasing supply, dealing with oversupply, poop (you know you want to talk about it!), introducing an occasional bottle, introducing food, soothing babies, talking with care providers about your baby, finding more sleep, and so much more!

Whether you need help or are there to give help, you’ll enjoy getting to know others with babies.  And YES, bring your baby!  Also, no joke, you are encouraged to wear your pajamas and come even without showering, really, it‘s true!

More Milk Mamas Group

Typically once-per-month.  It's for those nursing a child who is older, mobile and enjoying other foods (or those who are almost there...come ask questions!). Not everyone knows someone who is nursing an older baby, toddler or preschooler, so come on over and meet some other parents who nurse! Held on a weekend so working folks can also attend, this is a great place to ask about introducing foods, teething, biting, gymnurstics, changing sleep patterns and so much more. Come on over and experience this fun and interactive group!

Keep in mind that you are ALSO welcome at the Breastmilk & Conversation group if your child isn't yet walking or crawling away from you, but some parents like to have a group for the older babies and toddlers.

For those with toddlers and preschoolers, there is a playroom adjacent to the meeting room with toys.  Please be mindful of where your children are and what they are doing so they don’t climb furniture or touch things they shouldn’t be touching (including pushing or hitting other children). Thank you!

  • Breastmilk & Conversation Group is at 11:30 am on Fridays and once-per-month on a Saturday
  • More Milk Mamas Group is typically one Saturday per month, either at 10:00 am or 11:30 am.
  • Both groups are drop-in groups...just come on by!  Of course, check the calendar on babiesincommon.com before you head out to be sure it's still running (life happens!)! If group is cancelled for any date, it will be cancelled by 1 hour before group is scheduled to start.  Cancellations are rare, but are typically due to weather or illness or other unforeseen event that precludes the group facilitator from hosting group.
  • Some people will get to group late and leave early if needed, but folks enjoy spending the whole time here (sometimes it runs to 2 hours long).  It’s a pretty structured group, in that we sit on comfy floor chairs (with back support but if you need a real chair that can be arranged) in a circle and do introductions and then talk about the topics that come up with each introduction (how is feeding going, what are your questions, joys, challenges).  Laughs are always included, tears are welcome.  Not all groups are filled with feeding and pumping questions, we sometimes talk about other related topics, too. Ultimately, the conversation is led by what attendees want to discuss.  These groups are a great way to meet people and get answers. Attending group doesn’t replace a consultation if you need feeding help but often gives people just enough to get over a hump.  Jeanette (your IBCLC-lactation consultant facilitator) has been leading groups since early 2007 and many people have met their best friends through these groups.  Some 2nd timers and 3rd timers come, too.
  • The group fee is just $10 for those who are pregnant or nursing, chestfeeding, pumping or feeding their baby human milk. Need grandma or your sister to come with you, they are welcome, too, at no charge. :).  If you have a MassHealth card, your fee is $5.  WIC member, it's free!. You may pay via cash or credit card at the group.
  • To see scheduled dates and times of groups, click on the calendar icon in the top right of this page or click hereIf you put it on your calendar in advance, you’ll be more likely to attend (those who attend for the first time usually say they wish they had come sooner!).
  • Groups take place in Northborough at 6 Maple Street.  Enter through the door at the end of the stone walkway (that way there are no stairs!). Walk in that door and straight down the short hallway and you’ll find us!
  • Please do NOT bring in your stroller, leave it in your car.  It's best, also, to NOT bring in your baby's car seat--CARRY your baby and bring a blanket for the floor. :)
  • After attending your first group (but before you leave), be sure to sign-in on the iPad (just your first visit). Additionally, AFTER you attend group, there's a special Facebook group for those who have come to group--ask about it at group when you attend.  It's a Facebook group full of warm and caring folks and there's engagement daily to post questions, joys and challenges related to nursing, pumping and parenting. If you have been to group (or to a More Milk Mamas group), please click here to request to join the Facebook group Breastmilk & Conversation.
  • HOWEVER, if you CAN'T get to the groups here but would like to join another Facebook group that Babies in Common's lactation consultant Jeanette Mesite Frem facilitates, click here for the closed group Boobies in Common. READ THE DESCRIPTION BEFORE YOU JOIN!
  • OR, if you can't attend a group here due to timing or distance but are curious about where other groups are held, click here for a list I put together to make it easier for you to find other groups.
  • Some parents like to attend more than one group per week, so spread the word about this group to everyone you meet who has a baby!
