Prenatal Education

Are you ready to get real about how to have a natural birth, whether in a hospital, birth center or at home?

Do you want to have an awesome birth, no matter how or where your baby arrives?

Do you know you want medications or are likely to need interventions but know that the more you know the better birth experience you will likely have?

Do you value knowledge and skills in all aspects of your life?

Wouldn’t you want to take the most comprehensive and fun classes in the region!

Don’t you deserve to learn as much as possible and enjoy doing it?

Are you looking for classes and groups that take you from pregnancy, through to birth, new parenthood and breastfeeding as well?  Look no more.

Babies in Common classes help parents get the information they need to make informed decisions about pregnancy, labor, birth, newborn care and breastfeeding.  While classes are  based on research evidence, it's ultimately the taking of that information, new skills and the parents' values to their care providers so they can work together to figure out what is best  for each family.  Plus, for fifteen years Jeanette Mesite Frem has been teaching comprehensive and fun classes to literally thousands of Massachusetts families.  She believes prenatal classes should be fun--having a baby is fun and amazing, after all!

This class discusses how to get breastfeeding off to a great start and what parents can do prenatally to prepare. It's also walks parents through how to navigate the first month of baby's life feeling supported and what bumps in the road to look for. We talk about sore nipples, how to know when baby is getting enough milk, hand expression, pumping, choosing breast pumps (with pumps and lots of gear there) and how to know when to call in a professional for help.  We'll also talk about what you need and don't need as far as products. What can be more fun than talking about boobs!?  1-time class, 3.5 hrs, $90 per couple  Click here for more details and to register.

New Baby & Postpartum Ready

This class, taught by Melissa, an experienced labor and postpartum and OB/gyn nurse, childbirth educator and lactation counselor, provides parents with tons of information about easing the transition to parenthood, getting information to know how to make decisions for baby's care, bathing, healthy products, sleep, diapers, soothing baby and adjusting to parenthood.  And she's funny. Awesome Birth & Informed Decisions

This class is for anyone having their first baby--whether they are looking forward to giving birth without medication, prefer no or little intervention or want an epidural. We'll talk about the basics of what is needed to increase the chances for an awesome birth experience (as YOU define it) wherever you are choosing to give birth. We'll discuss pregnancy anatomy & comfort (how to be more comfortable during pregnancy!), the hormones of pregnancy and labor, the process of labor and birth, the logistics, the politics and the statistics. We'll talk about medications, interventions, Cesarean birth and how to make informed decisions based on the evidence, your preferences and your/your baby's health.  It's important to have information to have useful conversations with your care providers, who also want the best for you! This class takes place in two sessions within 2 days: a 3-hour Friday evening class and the next day, a 5-hour Saturday afternoon class.  8 hrs total over two days, a Friday evening and a Saturday afternoon in the same weekend. $230 per couple. Planning a VBAC?

For those planning for a vaginal birth after Cesarean, it's best to take the Move & Get Comfy for Labor class or even take the entire package of birth classes--there have been several couples who have done that and also enjoyed it as a date night away from their toddler! Actually, an area anesthesiologist took the full panel of Babies in Common birth classes in preparation for her VBAC and then took the Move & Get Comfy for Labor class in preparation for her third baby--she wrote a guest blog post about it on babiesincommon.com, by the way, so check that out by clicking hereClick here to read more about planning a VBAC with help from Babies in Common.

Cesarean & Postpartum

For those who are planning a Cesarean (or high-risk for having one) but are interested in finding out what happens during a Cesarean and how to make it as comfortable, joyful and personalized as possible.  We'll also go through what to expect in the hospital after baby's arrival as well as transitioning to parenthood at home and what makes that transition easier and more comfortable after surgery.  One-time class, 2.5 hrs.  Click here for more information on scheduling a class.

No matter what kind of birth you plan, you deserve to have an amazing birth!  $100/hour at Northborough Chiropractic. Topics are customized to what you want to learn about. This is a great option for those who don't want to do a group class, don't have time for a group class and don't want to do an online class, either.  Hey, whatever works! After Baby Arrives

Sometimes I host a special event called Birth Circle where those who have given birth and those who plan to can come to talk about birth. Folks share birth stories, listen to birth stories, ask questions, laugh and learn. $10, includes some light snacks, but it's also wonderful when participants bring snacks or drinks to share, it typically lasts several hours!  Watch the Babies in Common Facebook page for announcements of this event or see the Calendar (upper right-hand corner of all pages of this website).

After you have your baby, come to one or more of my Breastmilk and Conversation groups (a feeding support group, $10).  Click here for more information.
